Just Because Jar

We need help. We need incentive. We need daily reminders of the ways that we can follow the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He did so many things "Just Because" he loves us. It's important that we do certain things in our home, at school, at church, in our neighborhood, basically everywhere "Just Because."
For family home evening a few weeks ago, we created the "Just Because" Jar to help remind us of little ways that we can be more like Him. If Afton or Jack do something nice, helpful, or obedient "Just Because," they can earn some marshmallows. (They love these, thanks to their cousin Mitch-o who introduced them to them long ago. Every time they have one, they talk about Mitch-O.)

It was a fun lesson and the kids really bought into it. I've caught Afton picking up just because she wants to be helpful, without needing a reminder. Jack has been playing extra nice with both of his sisters. They both are trying to listen and be more obedient... most of the time. This is the hardest one of all, for ALL of us, in my opinion. (Daddy added to the lesson by showing the kids the "Marshmallow Test" video on YouTube. It's always a good watch.)
What they earned the first night.

Afton is so close to filling her jar, just 2 weeks later. Jack is too, but he didn't want to be in the picture.
Reminder to self - Buy the jumbo size marshmallows next time. :)

It is my hope and prayer that we can continue to be nice, helpful, and obedient "Just Because."
In doing so, we are being more like Him.
