Last week Afton talked about how cloudy it was. How it was probably going to rain that day and how she couldn't believe she might have to wear a jacket in May. She was just really missing the sun that had only been gone for a few hours.
To be clear, it was hardly an overcast day, with no chance of rain as the clouds were so thin, just barely masking the sun. It was a glorious 76° outside and just a beautiful day in the desert.
This last weekend, we spent a day at Huntington Beach where the skies were gray all day. There was no sign of it burning off and Jack was sure that he couldn't have any fun at all unless the sun came out.
To be clear again, all of us got sunburned. We spent 5 hours playing on the beach. Running, playing tag, burying each other, reading, enjoying the gray skies while hearing the crashing of the waves. The beach is our happy place.
My children may soon hear the words of this song more often than they ever could imagine hearing a song before.
"Gray skies are gonna clear up,
Put on a happy face;
Brush off the clouds and cheer up,
Put on a happy face.
Take off the gloomy mask of tragedy,
It's not your style;
You'll look so good that you'll be glad
Ya' decide to smile!
Pick out a pleasant outlook,
Stick out that noble chin;
Wipe off that "full of doubt" look,
Slap on a happy grin!
And spread sunshine all over the place,
Just put on a happy face!
Put on a happy face
Put on a happy face
And if you're feeling cross and bickerish
Don't sit and whine
Think of banana splits and licorice
And you'll feel fine
I knew a girl so gloomy
She'd never laugh or sing
She wouldn't listen to me
Now she's a mean old thing
So spread sunshine all over the place
Just put on a happy face
So, put on a happy face"
