Science and Scriptures

Getting excited around here for our Afton Joy. This birthday coming up is a very special one for her, 8 years old.

We are going to use our FHEs this month to focus on baptism to support her with this big decision she has made to become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Tonight we used a few things around the house to help us understand the scriptures we read last night as a family - 2nd Nephi 31.

We had a jar full of clear water, which represented Afton Joy. Next we used red food gel coloring (somehow I ran out of liquid, which would have worked better) that represented sins one can make in their life. And last was a medicine syringe full of Clorox Bleach that represented our special "Baptism by Immersion."

They all wanted a turn coming up with sins that Afton may have committed thus far in her life, squirting in a drop of food coloring in the of perfectly clear water. Little by little they could see how "sin" was affecting "Afton."

We talked about how when we're baptized, just like our Savior was, we could be forgiven of our sins and return to our perfect state. The "Baptism of Immersion" was also squirted in by each child, with them seeing the water change little by little back to the clear water it once was.

We then talked about how it would be impossible for Afton to never sin again after her special baptism day. She would make mistakes and hopefully learn and grow from them. And thankfully, the Savior's atonement would allow for Afton to be forgiven of those sins so that she can return to live with our Heavenly Father again.

This was a fun and important family home evening. I love my babes so much and hope they continue to want to have these special blessings that come when we follow our Savior's example.
